Installing wings

Lern how to install the daemon to use a server as a node for moonlight

This page does currently not show, how to install the moonlight daemon, just how to install wings. Some features may be unavailable when using moonlight without the moonlight daemon

Supported systems

Before installing the daemon to a server please check if the operating system is supported

Installing

First, you need to install docker. To install docker run the following command

curl -sSL https://get.docker.com/ | CHANNEL=stable bash

Then, add docker to autostart. You can do this using following command

systemctl enable --now docker

Now you need to enable swap. To enable swap simple open the file /etc/default/grub as root and add to swapaccount=1 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

So it should look like this

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="swapaccount=1"

Then press STRG+O and STRG+X to save

Some Linux distros may ignore GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. Therefore you might have to use GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX instead should the default one not work for you.

Now we install the daemon. This can be done using the simple commmands

mkdir -p /etc/pterodactyl
curl -L -o /usr/local/bin/wings "https://github.com/pterodactyl/wings/releases/latest/download/wings_linux_$([[ "$(uname -m)" == "x86_64" ]] && echo "amd64" || echo "arm64")"
chmod u+x /usr/local/bin/wings

To configure your node go to the setup page of your node in moonlight

And follow the instructions shown there. After this you need to create a custom systemd service for the daemon. To do this, execute following command

nano /etc/systemd/system/wings.service

And paste following content

[Unit]
Description=Wings Daemon
After=docker.service
Requires=docker.service
PartOf=docker.service

[Service]
User=root
WorkingDirectory=/etc/pterodactyl
LimitNOFILE=4096
PIDFile=/var/run/wings/daemon.pid
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/wings
Restart=on-failure
StartLimitInterval=180
StartLimitBurst=30
RestartSec=5s

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Then press STRG+O and STRG+X to save. As the last step of installing the daemon you need to enable the wings service using systemd

systemctl enable --now wings

Now you can start adding allocations using moonlight and start deploying servers
